Having completed a Doula UK recognised course
with Nurturing Birth, I am now a member of Doula
UK undergoing the recognition process as a
Trainee Doula with the intention to become a fully fledged Doula with Doula UK.

Doula means ‘women servant’ ‘mothers help’
The role of a Doula is summarised as providing
social support for women including physical comfort, emotional support, giving information on aspects
of pregnancy and birth and advocacy during pregnancy, birth and after childbirth. It is the type
of support that has traditionally been provided by a female member of the extended family.

A Doula is normally a mature woman who has experience of childbirth and has children herself. She believes in 'mothering the mother' empowering women during pregnancy, birth and the early days as a new mummy.
